Dobrobat brings life back to destroyed homes of Ukrainians: report on progress over the past week

Last week, Dobrobat construction battalions carried out urgent reconstruction in six country regions. Around 230 volunteers joined the reconstruction efforts. In particular, they cleared rubble from destroyed houses, repaired roofs, and installed windows. The volunteers united their strength and inspiration to support each other. For many, such help is the last hope.
Twice, groups of volunteers have visited the site of a destroyed house in Irpin. An enemy incendiary mine destroyed the home almost a year ago, and the owner was injured. The volunteers helped the older woman to clear the rubble and cleaned the area of construction debris. In addition, they dismantled the broken walls in one of the Irpin apartments. In this way, they supported a lonely owner whose husband fell defending his native land.
The reconstruction works in Demydiv are intensive. There, the volunteers urgently restored the destroyed roof of the house of a retired couple. The roof, walls, windows, and doors were damaged by enemy bombardment at the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. So the volunteers of the Kyiv branch repaired the roof frame, replaced the broken slate with a new one, and rebuilt part of the wall. They also installed new windows in the apartment where the woman and her son live. Unfortunately, they went through hell during the temporary village occupation and lost a close person. To make the family feel more comfortable at home, the volunteers replaced the broken window blocks in the apartment with new ones.
They also started the urgent restoration of a house in Zahltsi so that a woman, her daughter, and granddaughter, whose house was destroyed by enemy air strikes, could return home. The Dobrobat team has already visited the site twice. The goal is to rebuild the destroyed roof completely.
Volunteers from the Sumy branch repair a multi-story building in Trostyanets. Russian troops shelled the building, and the apartments were heavily damaged. Earlier, the volunteers cleared the second and third floors. Today, they are removing the fourth floor of rubble and dismantling about 40 tonnes of garbage and scrap metal. In addition, the motivated team of volunteers once again visited the Okhtyrka Art School. They continued to install new windows in the building, which had been damaged by enemy bombardment.
The volunteers from the Kharkiv battalion helped the residents of Malynivka. This week, they visited the village three times to repair roofs damaged by shelling. In particular, they covered with new slate the cut roof of a three-story house that the enemy shelled with multiple rocket launchers. In addition, they restored the top and dismantled the destroyed chimneys in a two-story building damaged by blast waves. They also dismantled the destroyed slate and repaired the wooden roof truss in a private house that an enemy shell had hit. In addition, they once again visited the O.M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy. Dobrobat volunteers have been involved in the aftermath of the “strikes” several times before, and this time they also responded to a request for help. Finally, the volunteers, together with the staff of the educational institution, cleared the rubble of another building.
A powerful team from the Mykolaiv battalion also constantly repairs roofs in the victims’ homes. This week they visited the village of Kvitneve twice. In the house of an elderly couple, they dismantled the destroyed roof, restored the rafters and beams, covered the top with a new slate, and finally installed a roof ridge. In addition, they repaired the roofs of two houses that had been damaged by enemy shelling with Solntsepyok flamethrower systems. The old roof was dismantled, and the new one was covered with slate. The work was completed in one day. They also helped a single woman from the village of Ukrainka. Due to a direct hit from an enemy mine, a part of the roof and two walls of her house were demolished. The volunteers repaired the crate, replaced the beams, and covered the top with a new slate.
A team from the Kherson battalion helped a resident from the village of Posad-Pokrovske. An enemy Smerch MLRS missile hit the house near the town. The house and all the buildings nearby were destroyed by the impact. The volunteers cleared the debris from the summer kitchen so the owner could set up a modular home.
The volunteers from Zaporizhzhya also closely monitor the reconstruction, supporting their hometown and its residents. After another enemy shelling, a team of volunteers and the Cobra rescue service and the State Emergency Service eliminated the consequences of destroying a residential complex. They were clearing the area of debris at the site of the hit. They also continued to help the locals whose homes were damaged by the explosions. This week, we installed window and balcony blocks in a young student’s apartment. We also replaced a broken window in the home of an elderly couple, installing window sills and drip caps.
We are holding our hammers firmly in our hands and do not stop on the way to rebuilding the country! We are grateful to the volunteers who exemplify dedication to the country and the common cause!
