Dobrobat reports urgent reconstruction on the last week of February

Published: 28.02.23
Winter was considered a challenge for the urgent reconstruction of the country. But our people, despite the lack of electricity, the threat of enemy shelling and the weather conditions, once again showed maximum resilience and determination in restoring their destroyed homes. At first, it was hard to even imagine how to dismantle the rubble when it was snowy and frosty outside and how to repair the roof when the electrical construction tools could not be powered. But nevertheless, we have made it through this most challenging winter with dignity. And we are reporting on the last week of urgent reconstruction in February. About 250 volunteers were involved in the reconstruction of five oblasts of the country.

In Kyiv Oblast, the volunteers travelled to Irpin, Dymer and Demydiv. Several times they visited the location in Irpin, where three private houses were utterly destroyed due to an enemy ""strike"". There, the volunteers completely cleared the rubble from the territory of one of them. They also carried out dismantling work and began dismantling the rubble of what the elderly couple had tenderly called home before the war. In March last year, their house was destroyed by a direct hit from an enemy ""strike"", probably a phosphorus bomb. Only rubble remained. In the future, the volunteers will continue to work on eliminating the consequences of the destruction.

In Dymer, volunteers repaired the roof of a multi-storey building. The roof of the building was damaged by a blast wave from the enemy "strikes" at the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion. For about a month, the volunteers visited the site almost every day to repair the roofing, the timber roof truss, gutter system and replace all the broken slates with new ones so that the residents could have warmer homes.

In addition, for two days in a row in Demydiv, volunteers from the Kyiv branch of the Goodwill unit repaired the destroyed roof of a house where a woman with two teenage sons lives. The blast wave shattered the windows and roof of the house. The family managed to partially repair the damage on their own so that they could live in the house. Now Dobrobat volunteers urgently repair the roof.

In the Sumy oblast, volunteers aided the affected residents of Trostyanets, whose houses burned down after the russian artillery shelling. The residential building, which had 60 apartments, was engulfed in flames, and the blast waves shattered internal partitions and smashed all the windows. Volunteers removed the rubble from the destroyed building and cleaned three apartments. The Romny construction battalion also visited the site for three days to help a large family whose house burned down during the enemy'senemy's offensive. The team cleared the burned-out area, replaced the roof truss system, insulated the attic and fixed wooden ceilings in the rooms. The urgent reconstruction of the house is still ongoing.

In Kharkiv, Dobrobat volunteers cleaned up the territory of the O.M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy. The premises of the educational institution were destroyed due to rocket attacks by the russian occupiers in early February. The volunteers visited the site several times and cleared the building and the surrounding area of debris.

In Prybuzke, Mykolaiv oblast, the roof of a retirement home was being urgently repaired. The ""strike'' hit a building near the house, shattering the roof covering. Volunteers restored the broken boards, changed nails, dismantled the old slate and laid a new one. The volunteers also urgently restored a unit in a one-story apartment building in Mykolaiv. The building was hit by a russian S-300 missile. They carried out dismantling works, cleared the premises of construction debris, and almost completely rebuilt the wall in the apartment demolished by the explosion. In the future, the volunteers plan to rebuild the remaining shattered walls and make a roof over the destroyed part.

A team of volunteers from the Zaporizhzhya construction battalion helped in the village of Balabine. They eliminated the consequences of the enemy shelling carried out by the occupiers on February 21. The explosive waves shattered the roofs of many houses in the village. The Dobrobat team cleared away construction debris, sewed up broken windows with OSB boards and repaired roofs in the homes of the affected residents.
