HOW A RUSSIAN MISSILE STRIKE TURNED AN ENTREPRENEUR INTO A DOBROBAT VOLUNTEER
He lost his business to the war but stayed to rebuild his city: the story of Andrii Razin, head of the Zaporizhzhia branch of Dobrobat.
Before the full-scale invasion, Andrii Razin was successfully developing his automotive business: he built a modern auto center in Mariupol and worked in Zaporizhzhia for over 15 years. However, the war shattered his future plans—the Russians demolished the Mariupol branch during the assault on Azovstal, and in October 2022, two enemy missiles completely destroyed his business in his hometown of Zaporizhzhia.
Despite his personal loss and the daily terror of the frontline city, Andrii did not leave to look for a better life. When dozens of strangers came to help him clear the debris of his auto center, he realized this movement needed to be systematized. That is how Andrii came to lead the Zaporizhzhia branch of Dobrobat.
Today, his team has more than 1,200 restored sites under its belt: from residential buildings to hospitals and universities, not only in the Zaporizhzhia region but also in neighboring areas.
In this interview, Andrii Razin spoke candidly about working under shelling, the staff shortages caused by volunteers joining the front lines, and his ultimate dream after victory.
