MORE THAN 1,200 RESTORED SITES: HOW DOBROBAT SAVES ZAPORIZHZHIA
Clearing the aftermath of shelling and rebuilding communities: how Dobrobat helps Zaporizhzhia during the war.
From their very first deployments amidst the chaos of autumn 2022 to more than 1,200 restored sites today—the Zaporizhzhia branch of the volunteer building battalion “Dobrobat” has been on the front lines of recovery for over four years. Volunteers board up shattered homes, secure damaged roofs, and repair social infrastructure, often working late into the night alongside the State Emergency Service and utility teams.
On whose shoulders does rebuilding rest in a frontline city? How do veterans return to construction after severe wounds to help civilians? Andrii Razin, head of the Zaporizhzhia branch, gave an extensive interview, speaking candidly about:
-creating the battalion during mass strikes with S-300 missiles;
-working at the most challenging locations and the specifics of volunteer training;
-staff shortages, a lack of youth, and communities that have to be rebuilt repeatedly after new strikes;
